Default Played the new all sapele Martin SC-10e

Like the other 10 series with sapele tops, it was surprisingly wonderful. It has more low end and a mellower, more 'Martin' voice than the sc13.

I've always been intrigued by the innovation of these guitars, but pretty meh about the sound. This one might change my mind!

This sounds very interesting. I'll keep an eye out for one of those.

Good luck! My daughter played an SC 13e Special at the factory and fell in love with it. Likely her next guitar. Where’d you order from?

Thanks Mike. I really wanted to get it from Sweetwater, but ordered from Guitar Center because it's easier to return if I don't like it.

I’m headed to Alto Music in Middletown, NY with a couple of electrics to trade in. Looking for a cutaway dread for me and an SC13e Special for my daughter. If they aren’t generous enough with a trade, I will call Maury’s and buy from them. They’ve got a good sale running.

Hey joe, how do you like yours?

I’m thinking hard about picking one up.

Does anyone know if the all sapele version is built with the a real wood fingerboard? I see that the spruce topped version says that it may come with either richlite, ebony, katalox, etc. Seems odd, and unfortunate, that the all sapele would only come with richlite.

Sal, it's by far the easiest playing guitar I own. The neck is perfect for me, the body is real comfortable sitting and standing, it feels like a smaller guitar then it is. The scale is 25.4, but it feels like a short scale, (because of the 13 frets to the body) and it's easy on the shoulder.

I'm a newcomer to sapele/mahogany topped guitars, the Taylor AD22 was the first one I owned, and I really like the tone of mahogany, especially with Martin Retros strings. It's a great gig guitar, but it gets most of my home playing time too.

I like it so much, I'd like to get a spruce topped SC at some point.

The only downside to it, the Sonitone, which I replaced with a Baggs Element.

Rolly, my SC10e sapele has a richlite fretboard and I love it. It feels good and guaranteed no fret sprout

Well guys, I joined ye.

Bought it from the Guitar Center in Totawa.

It does need an action adjustment, and the neck looks like it has some bow.

I think it needs the neck straightened and then a lower shim put in, because if the neck is straight I suspect the action will be way too low. (With the current shim anyways).

It was my first time at that store, and they were real easy to deal with.

For what it’s worth, after I get it dialed in, I know I’m going to dig it. I love mahogany, and I think the pickup sounds terrific.

Did I need this? No. But it is a nice guilty pleasure. Super light in the case too.

Thanks Lowrider!

I think I know just what to do with this guitar too. I gig in Brooklyn, and I always visit my mom “in the neighborhood” before the gigs… I’m going to leave this at her house so I have something to play with on visits.

Very cool Sal, congrats. As I've told you, I really dig mine. I think you'll like it once you get it dialed in.
