If you don't name your guitars, how do they know which one is going to practice with you? Do you say "Today I'm going to take you, inanimate guitar, to the rehearsal". Then when you leave the room, they immediately look at each other and say "Did he mean me?? Did he mean you?!?"

If you don't name your guitars, what do you name your bluegrass combo???!!?? My band from the 1970s, "Jesse and Silas", would have been "Inanimate Tools 1 and 2".

Sheeeeeeze!!!!!!!!!
Funny!

Haha! Nailed ya Larry!

I've never named inanimate objects, although my kids used to name my cars, including one '67 Camaro which developed an exhaust leak and became known as "San Quentin on Wheels."

Well...usually I put my guitars in their cases overnight, but forgot to do so with my new guitar one day last week. As we were going to bed, my husband said, "So is Martin staying up tonight?" It took me a moment to realize he meant the guitar. And yesterday I caught myself saying that I wanted to change the strings on Martin. So, not very original, but maybe his name is Martin now.

Nah...just by maker or model (or version of the model). Clapton, CEO-7, Kopp, Bashkin, Mule, Strat.

Or...... just answer the question and let other's do the same.
I don't name mine. It seems pointless as I'm not going to call out to them. Plus, I would forget one of their names and it would be out of intonation for a week until i apologized.

Hi s2y

When I was 16yrs old I carved my girl friend's name (SUE) in block letters on the front of my guitar. Do you know how hard it is to keep finding girls with the same name to date. Less hard than explaining to girls who are not named SUE why it's carved in the top of your guitar!!

I never named a guitar in almost 60 years of owning guitars. They were always the .......... Or my ............. However, when my mother died last October at the age of 99, I decided I would buy a guitar and name it after her. I originally intended it to be a J45 but the one I got (via Internet) was not for me. So I bought a J15 and that guitar is "Nell".

It seems this kind of thread comes around every couple of months.

So I'll answer for the 10th time. I only name people and pets. Guitars are to guitars players as paint brushes are to artists. Both can produce something beautiful but I don't remember Picasso ever naming his paint brushes.

But I do name my strings and capos. Oh and my case too. But guitars--that's crazy.

Hi dman

I was/am not offended by your post.

Sometimes I feel it important to remind us that this is a discussion forum, and topics cycle continuously, and not every opposing view is a critique of the individual who asked the question.

There are some ornery folk who occasionally get a bit judgmental, but for the most part, differing views are based on differing experiences, results, or opinions.

I'm sure you are aware of that…but thanks for touching base.

I don't name my guitars because I don't really ever mention them in conversation.
And I don't carry more than one guitar around so "my guitar" is specific enough.

Really if I gave them names I wonder when I would ever have a chance to say the names out loud.

Old school? It's fun school. I quite enjoy coming up with names for my guitars:

Racklesnatch, Salma, Frida, Vitamin D to name my favourites.

dman mentioned people "talking down" to someone, which is not part of answering the question ("Do you name your guitars?").
