Yeah, me too!
I have only played fingerstyle for the past year or so; flesh only. It has been interesting to watch my thumb, index and middle fingertips go through the same process that my fretting fingers when through decades ago. The corner of my right thumb has a callus edge that I can use basically like a pick. During the day, when I am not close to a guitar, I love to rub it and remember what's important.

I use to practice long hours and my calluses can get very thick. But the only time it annoys me is when a piece of the skin is slightly sticking out.
Time to time I do cut some off if it is to thick. |

A little bit.
But I do like saying the word,"calluses." I also like saying, "Galluses."

I find myself picking at them with my thumb nail. They also interfere with my ability typing as they don't feel the keys like they used to and I have to keep backing up to correct errors.
Going to have to try the emery file thing. |

LOL: Due to an unfortunate accident, on my fretting hand, I lost one fingertip (it was reattached) and badly severed two others down to the bone. I haven't had feeling in those fingertips in years so the callouses make no difference at all.
FWIW, it took about 2-3 years after the mishap before I even tried to pick-up a guitar again. Let me know if you want to see pictures of the chopped-off fingers and while the surgeon was getting ready to reattach one of them. Ray

No.
I've been playing since I was an embryo so I've long since gotten used to my calluses. |

Only when the edge of one starts to curl up and snags strings making notes I didn't intend to play.

They interfere occasionally, like on touch screens, and serve as a nice reminder that I'd rather be playing my guitar....

As a female I used to grow my nails long and keep my hands soft. When I finally remembered I loved guitar and took it up again, I watched my callouses form with pride. My nails are ultra short and finger tips hardened and they remind me what is important to me and what I have achieved. (As do my two guitar tattoos)

As a kid I had big calluses. Now they have been replaced with semi-hard skin that is still soft and I can bang away with no issues. Have I transcended calluses or do I need to play more?
