I've got this cool old cigarette box (probably from the 50's) that was engraved with our old business name in a silver plated exterior and cedar lined interior. It's sized for old non-filtered cigarettes (Lucky-Strike, Pall-Mall, Camel) and I keep tuners/capo's/picks inside it. Looks good sitting on the table so my wife is good with it. Win-Win! The guitar is an OM-28 Ambertone from Jon @ MFG.

My choice too. LOVE the Altoids canisters. Plus, they have different sizes for different picks. I mark different labels with Sharpies, such as "TS" for real Tortoise.

I think its somewhat amusing that so many people keep their guitars out on stands so they 'pick up the guitar and play right away' rather than keeping them in cases, yet so many players store picks in boxes that must be found, opened, pick chosen ....

I was playing on of my guitars last night and thought of this thread.

Here is something I've started using and keeping this box in the storage compartment under the neck in my hard cases. These little boxes are available in craft and fabric stores. I picked up several when they were on sale for less than $2. The dividers are removable and the latch works great. Safe way to store a 9 volt battery and if you removed some of the dividers most capos would fit as well.

Here's a link to the at Amazon so you can see the latch (click the second picture they have). http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Optio...ons+containers

I use a little leather pouch, that snaps in the front. It holds about 50 picks. I loaded it up with picks back in the '70's and have used it ever since. It still has a bunch of picks in it. I bought it at a hippy type head shop way back when. I think it was meant to hold a small stash of weed, but I used it for picks instead.

Music Villa tossed this into the case when I bought my J-45. Pretty cool...and perfect for pick storage.

I've used one of these for decades. If anyone asks, "What is the tooth for?", I tell them it's my Pick Tooth. It holds a couple dozen.

  • Long term (overstock) storage goes into the "sack" jar.
  • Short term goes in a selection of ash trays from my smoking days. (long ago, but my ash trays were too nice to toss out). That gummy looking thing is a toe spreader. We'll leave it at that.
  • Immediate access is with these little leather pick pouches I keep on each key chain. Where I go my favorite pick is right there.
  • Then I keep four of five in each guitar case.

Duh! I forgot what is sitting right here on the desk in my music room.

Here is a little pick shaped tray I picked up in El Cajon:

I keep mine in an ashtray that I liberated from the Castaways Hotel in Las Vegas on my very first trip there back in 1975 or so.

The Castaways is long gone, but their ashtray lives on.
