Congratulations BBWW on your beautiful new Santa Cruz. What a great look...

I was lucky enough to play a 1929 00 for a few months and thought it had a wonderful tone. Have you had a chance to compare yours to a standard 29 00? If so, do you notice much of a difference in tone?

All the best, berf

I did when I was at the shop. They had an 00 1929 in a display case. Both were very nice guitars. This one really jumped out though in volume and tone.

The bass was a little more defined which I like, it had the midrange you would expect but it was very well balanced against the highs. In general this was a little canon, sounding much larger than it's diminutive size.

It's all so subjective. Guitars from The Tree continue to amaze me. I've played a lot of them. Some say it's just pretty mahogany but it's really in a different world. The fact that it is so responsive to a light touch AND a good digging into as well for makes it a quintessential do it all guitar for me. Truth be told though at first playing I was missing those two frets, so some adjustment will have to be made on my part.

Did I say it's a cannon.

I can only echo what others have already said. That is a fine looking instrument! I cannot wait for the sound files!

Given this and the Greenfield you are having built (per your signature), I just cannot fathom what the two you won't speak of yet are!

I know what my production model cost. I can't imagine the price tag on that beauty. Congratulations. I'm sure it's being put to good use.

Very nice, Jay. I didn't realize you were having Richard build this, and although I don't think it's the first tree-top that is so rare that I'm fascinated.

Hope to catch you live sometime so I can see this bad boy in person!

Best,

Phil

Question

That is one STUNNING guitar. Can I ask, what percentage over the normal 1929-00 price was the upgrade to The Tree? 30% more? 50% more? 100% more??

And how long was the wait time?

You must have the patience of Job to leave it in their office for two more weeks!

Absolutely stunning - Congratulations.

I've thought my 1929 RS was the best looking of the series I've ever seen, but this one is head and shoulders above mine. It's beautiful.

Enjoy,
Mark

That is a beautiful guitar--beyond commentary!

I didn't know what "The Tree" was and had to look it up. Really an interesting story. Does anyone know how much usable wood remains from The Tree? I saw that Taylor has made (at least one) guitar from The Tree. Do other companies (besides Taylor and Santa Cruz) have access to this wood?

A good number of the builders on this forum have sets of "The Tree". For larger companies/shops I know Bedell and Breedlove have sets, McPhearson Guitars did have some and may still.

You should call you favorite builders first. They also know where to find some. Harvey Leach, Tim McKnight, Cornerstone, Mark Hatcher, Kevin Ryan, Jim Olson and Jayson Kostal all have sets.
