are you a seasonal player of different instruments
i've just figured out i am.
around March of each year, i get this heavy draw to just concentrate on clawhammer banjo-the approaching warmth of sultry summer days and nights, the insects singing into the moisture rich night air of the Virginia mountains where i live, it all just fits in with some dropped tunings of slow lonesome clawhammer. in the midst of winter, usually around December, i start feeling the yearning of just hanging out with a mandolin. picked up two mountain dulcimers last summer, and although i haven't had much time to spend with them, i can easily see that instrument having its own time with me. beautiful music from these simple wooden boxes. a guitar or tenor Uke fills in the between times. anyone else out there go off for periods on something different from our guitars? d Last edited by darylcrisp; 06-20-2014 at 08:49 PM. |

I recently sprained my index finger of my left (fretting) hand, so it's been difficult to play guitar. I decided to take up violin. Doing more reading than playing, but I'm enjoy the rest from playing guitar.

I kind of do the same thing. I go through periods where I play a lot, then I don't play at all for awhile, repeat ad nauseam. I'm the same way with the bagpipes though. I'm very bipolar when it comes to musical instruments. :-P
