In the studio where work I play in either a padded stool or a wooden chair. They aren't nearly as comfortable.

I saw one of these on this forum a few years ago and decided I wanted one. I contacted the lady about getting one and discovered that she is located about a mile from where I was at my office. Couldn't believe it. She made me one and I drove down the street and picked it up. I love it. I wish I could gig with it. It's just too cumbersome to take for gigs.

Another happy SoundSeat user here. I ordered it at the end of 2012 after a very helpful conversation with J R Baker (RIP). In 2020, after I started working from home, I bought a higher gas lift and a foot ring for it and Bretta was also very helpful. Mine still looks and feels like new 11 years later. I highly recommend. Worth every penny that I paid for it.
Best,
Jayne

I have the Soundseat also and love it.But I would not gig with it !Don't wanna carry that thing from gig to gig. I use a padded folding chair that I took a tubing cutter to ,took off about two inches because I need to be 17 inches off the floor. Soundseat too.

Default SoundSeat, hands down

Bought my SoundSeat from JR Baker at CAAS in Nashville in 2009. Use it every day, still looks like new. I broke one of the locks on the arm adjusters this summer. Called Bretta ( JR passed some years ago). She still builds chairs and sells parts. She sent me the lever/lock assembly and a new set of casters for good measure. I’m pretty sure my SoundSeat will out last me and my kids can fight over it!

Bought an office chair from Amazon with fold up arms. After I got it I discovered that the arms don't fold quite high enough to be completely out of the way but I was able modify the stops on the right side arm with a cutoff wheel on my Dremel so that it folds all the way up. The left side was OK as built. Very comfortable and not all that expensive. Sorry but this is my home guitar/video playing/U Tube watching chair. I don't use it for gigging. I should read the the Op's opener more clearly.

I use one of the Gator frameworks chairs, it folds and has a very useful guitar stand built in. It's built very solidly which does make it a little heavy.
It's very adjustable so you should be able to dial in your favorite sitting position .
Mines done years of gig and rehearsal butt sitting and it's as good as the day I bought it.
The only negative is the weight but it's so solid as a result that it's not going to collapse under you one day. Probably a lifetime purchase.
You can get them from Sweetwater among others.

I bought a cozy two-seater sofa for my guitar room last week, so I have to say the sofa.
Before, I used a standard chair, nothing fancy, but after long sessions, my back would start to feel it. So, I thought, why not make the space more comfortable. That's why I decided to buy the sofa. I got it from the What A Room store, in case someone might need one.

I got a folding patio chair at Target for about $25 a few years ago. Comfortable and lightweight.

They probably cost more now.

I sit in a good windsor chair to play at home, but I bet my motorcycle would be
a great guitar chair ...

I don't perform sitting very often because I'm a short guy and I feel like I disappear when I'm sitting. When I do need to take some weight off, I'll use a bar stool and kinda half perch on it so that the weight is off my legs, but I'm still close to my standing height.

If it is a sitting gig, whatever they have. A folding chair works fine, or a bar stool. I really don't need a special guitar playing chair, anything without arms works for me. At home I have an office chair that serves for a multitude of sitting duties, including guitar, banjo, and ukulele.

I posted this a couple of weeks ago in another thread:

Just Found an Inexpensive Guitar-Playing Stool

I just bought a shop/garage stool at Costco for $40 that seems like it might be good for guitar playing. I found it in the aisle with the auto accessories. It looks exactly like this one, same brand, but not a two-pack (and cheaper). The website says ht. adj. is four inches, my box doesn't say that, but it says ht. is 28.3" (I assume that is at the max height). Assembly required.

I'm 5'10" and it is just right for me, YMMV. The seat is padded, but firm.

Compared to the much more expensive alternatives:
There are no casters, but a plywood platform with small casters could possibly work if that is really important to you. The footrest is square, not a circle, but since the seat swivels that shouldn't be too inconvenient.

The link refers to a two-pack, but mine was packed as a single.
