Yeah no kidding.
Both the OP and Gruhn's site don't have much to say. Why the secrecy?
Looks like a Tacoma with G's signature. But we wouldn't know that because of the lack of information.

I hope the reboot is successful because I've always been intrigued by the Tacoma design and I've read some very good things about the originals' sound and playability.

Interviewed George for the Fretboard Journal Podcast about these:
https://www.fretboardjournal.com/pod...-george-gruhn/
or
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas...=1000630058491

We talked for 90 minutes, mostly about the Versitars and their evolution but also about the guitar market in general. He's using some very cool alternative woods on a lot of these (osage orange, black locust, etc).

I've interviewed or spoken to George numerous times over the years but I've never heard him quite this animated or happy. He's clearly proud of this initial batch, there are more styles on the way (a baritone and a smaller guitar) and it sounds like he's even going to have a small dealer network. Tune in.

What Wade said.

I’ve been listening to the podcast interview with Mr Gruhn, and he sure likes them. With all his experience and the guitars he has at hand, he should know a good one when he sees/hears one.

But you sent yours back right away?

In the simplest terms, they didn’t send the guitar I ordered. They are taking care of it and I should see it next week.

I bought a tuning fork in 1973 and used it until I got my first electronic tuner around Y2K….it’s still around here somewhere..

Great idea, IMHO

If you need to dig inside, it will be a snap!

Interesting that GG has the patent, and Tacoma was using his design! Must check out the above FJ interview

Cheers

From the podcast: "We hear about how his guitar creations have evolved from the Tacoma instruments he designed decades ago.."

I'm not sure what to think as we have heard he had very little input to the designs and also that he designed many Tacoma instruments and holds patents.

Well I understand that Vince Gill ordered one each for himself, his wife, and each of his buddies in the Eagles. He's got some ears.

To be honest, I was absolutely smitten by George's Chieftan the first time around in the '90s (this little thing is making all this sound?) but didn't have the free pesos because I was in the middle of raising my boys. Even at that point there was a certain rustic nature to the guitar but that, the playability, and the sound, were all part of the charm. I would take one if it was given to me but right now the remuda is full as far as new investment is concerned.

That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks for posting that image. It should make interior repairs much easier.

Very cool. What is the max body depth? It looks like 4" at the most.

I think you're confusing stories there. Vince bought 8 of the Gruhn-commissioned 0000-18 12 fret sinkers. 2 for himself, 1 for Amy Grant (his wife) one for their daughter and the other 4 for the guys in Eagles.

I am certain that is true of the above as George told me that when I was in visiting him several weeks ago and I think I maybe shared that in another thread on here.

I suppose his generosity could have continued and he did the same thing with these Versitars, too?
