Any idea of value for insurance purposes, definitely not for sale.

many thanks
I'm not sure that is correct, even though your photo's are kind of small for me to make out much detail, the back certainly doesn't look like Mahogany to me! Also, I have the other photo's of a SY4 and it does have Curly Maple back and sides.

Another thing I got to thinking about, is that it could be a similar model released AFTER the Anniversary one, since 1995 was the 60th Anniversary of Kazuo Yairi? Just a thought, I know they do that with the Alvarez Yairi Anniversary or Commemorative models, if one is popular enough they will reissue it at a later year, basically is the same guitar (sometimes slight changes) to the original issue.

I'll see if I can find it in one of my Yairi catalogs, I may not have that year.. but, think I should be able to at least find one that is very similar and probably would have the same value.

This might take me a while.. will post back when I find something.

I imagine that would have been the 60th anniversary of Yairi guitars...not Kazuo Yairi, unless he started making guitars at 3 years of age `cause in my book he says he was born in 1932.

My apologies, it is Maple and not mahogany as I posted. The label inside guitar says K Yairi. Anne 1996, serial number 52179

Hi there,
I am seriously considering getting the sunburst version of the Yairi JY84.
Can I ask you where you found those pictures? They seem to be taken from some kind of catalogue. Would it be available somewhere online?
Thanks for your answer,

Michel

Finding old catalogues is difficult at best.
Not many keep the old ones, after the new ones come out.
Your best bet is to go to the Alvarez website, and contact them for info...
They have a guy that knows EVERYTHING about Alvarez and Yairi guitars.
What he doesn't know, he knows where to find it.
It rarely takes more than 48 hours for him to get back to you.

Cool S. Yairi- YF-25

I just bought a S. Yairi YF-25
Serial #091873

It plays real nice and sounds great.
Very Martin like in it's build.

I can't find ANYTHING on this model.

Anyone out there have any info?
THANKS!!!! ......if you do.

I'd hope the # means Sept; 18, 1973.....doubt it.
It doesn't seem that old.

Probably 2009.

Again, Thanks.

I have a 2004 WY1 that is extremely easy to play. The cedar top and otherwise give it a unique tone that I like a lot, not a ton of bass but not a lot less than many similar body styles. Sounds even better plugged in, which I don't take advantage of much, so could personally do without the barndoor electronics but still like the guitar a lot. My understanding is that the newer WY1s are very similar with updated electronics

The resale value as a % below MAP is significantly lower than Martins etc., probably partly because of the lesser brand recognition and because of the laminated back and sides. So this can work in your favor if buying one used but something to keep in mind either way. I definitely wouldnt write them off because of the laminated back and sides, the process/woods are a lot different than most guitars with laminated back and sides and can be a benefit depending on your circumstances, definitely not as susceptible to temperature/humidity.
