Again MaxTech has an interesting video , getting more into the nuts an bolts of these new chips ....
Knowing the techie types have been saying the Unified RAM in theses M chips was significantly more efficient and thus allowed faster processing with less RAM... So that the RAM in a Unified configuration could be less, yet still outperform more even RAM in the traditional configuration . I always wondered OK but how exactly ? Well at 3:40 he gets into an explanation that finally makes some sense to me

I have no doubt the "location guys" must be super excited over the possibilities. It seems like even a huge concert could be easily run on a single laptop ...
But I wonder if it might also change the demographic of computers used in up to say, mid size or maybe even large professional recording studios... If perhaps many that had towers will move to laptop or Mac mini ??? And while I am sure we will see these chips fairly soon in Mac Mini and iMac,,,, I wonder what apple will come up with for the Mac Pro

That's hard to predict but I'll bet NASA is excited because I'm sure that thing is going to be able to control multiple rockets and shuttles at the same time.

M1 Max chip
700 + tracks (that it will even play and record is pretty amazing) Granted a bit funky given neither Monterey or these new chips are PT qualified

The term "game changer" can be terribly overused but in the case of these new Apple chips, it absolutely applies.

Mine is due in December, I’m excited after using an iPad for the last 4 years. My MPB, which I bought in 2010 (yep, twenty-ten), gave out after 7 good years.

Rumors about Apple's M2 chip are beginning to surface from those that seek to find stuff like this. 40 cores, 4 dies, 3nm tracing.

I have been using an iPad Pro only since 2018. With several photography trips on the horizon, it was time to do something different.
I absolutely do not need much of the processing power of these amazing machines, but I wanted the screen (holy cow!), the built in SD card reader, and more storage so I don't have to lug adapters and external drives. Bought the 14" Pro, non-binned, 16RAM, 1 TB SSD, yesterday and absolutely love it. It is one of the "base" configurations, so I just ordered it and walked into the store to pick it up. Yes, it comes with Monterey, and yes, it is a fantastic screen. I have to remember to stop touching the screen for input, though

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_(integrated_circuit) The M1 CPUs have one die. The M2 will have four. Line tracing: The "3 nm" spec (three nanometers) is the width of the circuit lines and junctures in the die. The smaller the line, the more transistors in a given space. The M1 uses 5 nm tracing. |
