I think he's putting on a free concert in Central Park right now. I wish I had known...NYC is only 45 minutes from here...RATS!

Default some devil

I have been meaning to pick up this cd when it came out, and I finally got around to doing it. I must say that I really do like this record. There are maybe 2 songs that I'm not THAT fond of, but the rest are great, and I really like the variety of sounds that are presented on this record. Although it definitely is not DMB material, I must say I like the change. Definitely recommend it to others!

I'm not very familiar with Dave Matthews, but I did go to the site and listen to the clips from "Some Devil"...

Is that the way he always sings? Maybe it's my speakers...but it didn't sound like he is a very good singer. What do people like about Dave Matthews?

got my cd via ups on tuesday -- i was making last minute plans for the NYC trip while listening, so i didn't get a great feel for the cd since it was more or less background music given the other stuff going on.

then on the way to the airport yesterday morning, there was no traffic, etc., so i could focus more on the cd. i must say, i'm completely blown away. i *never* expected this album to be so good. as cheesy as it sounds, i honestly think that every aspect of this album is truly spectacular.

I've been through it about 6 times, in full, now.....

I concur.

What specifically do you not like about his voice?

First of all, those samples are not the highest quality...

Second, Dave seems to me to be a very skillful singer. He is very jazz-oriented, working from his basic melody and then forming endless variations. Live, he never sings the same song the same way twice. He also characteristically uses a lot of falsetto, but always in tune, which is not easy to do.

Some Devil has a few tracks on it that are quintessential examples of flasetto, IMO.

I think his voice is really great.
