I have always been a gear/gadget lover, so GASed hard early on. More as a beginner.

It took me a while to realize that it wasn’t something wrong with the guitar, it is that learning guitar has its own challenges.

I still like the differences between guitars, variety, beauty and the fun of different instruments. However, I also have come to the reality that I need to actually learn to play the dang thing to fully appreciate these aspects.

I got up to 6 guitars, all nice enough without going crazy. I have sold 3 of them now. The remaining are more than adequate, and I love the two I play regularly (3rd is an old strat I rebuilt, can’t sell for more than pocket change so I may as well keep it for the rare dabble in distortion).

So I keep reminding myself that someday I can buy another, but there is no need at the moment. The longer I wait, the more I will know what I want.

I still look daily….

It ONLY becomes a problem when you spend money you don't have.
This is what I hope happens for me. Just four or five good ones, and I’m done with GAS! After all, I really just wanna play. I think that if your main focus is to just play, then the GAS will eventually resolve when you find the guitar(s) that inspire you.

I like owning lots of guitars, and would continue buying and stacking them if I only had more room. Many don’t get played, which is unfortunate. If they were all on hangers in a dedicated room I would play all of them more, but I don’t have enough rooms. My recording room is already full. I’m not sacrificing any more space.

My rules are self imposed, or at least they would be if I enforced them….

I have to thin the herd drastically before I bring in any more. The ones I now own and play are excellent, and I am content…For now..

That didn't work for me. I have high end guitars and it's been a long time since I wanted something "better", but I still like exploring different sounds. When guitars are really resonant, you can get different, unique voices. Exploring that is a really fun thing for me so I'll sell guitars I love just to see what experiences other ones have to offer.

For some, it could be that we enjoy the “hunt” for another guitar.

The last guitar I bought was in 2019. So I think I’m no longer affected that much by GAS.

This is what I aspire to do! Much respect. Until then, I shall burn with (friendly) envy at you amazing builders and use the "one in, one out" rule. Though lately it's been amended to the "two in, one out" rule. Sometimes exceptions have to be made when a beautifully-voiced Iris shows up unexpectedly at your door. But something will have to go. This system is working for me.

Nope, not here.. No rules at all

Haven't brought a new guitar into the house for a few years now.

I feel that I have all I need right now, and maybe some stuff that I don't.

The concept of a "rule" is very odd to me.

Especially if you impose it upon yourself - isn't it just a behavior?

Behavior is an outcome. Rules are guardrails that can/should affect behavior.

No rules, just being a responsible adult with my extra Money, There is no crime in spending your own money on things that are a huge focus and passion in your life. If it causes stress than its not worth it.
