Congrats Mick! Martin really seems to have captured lightning in a bottle with that one. I’ve never liked a guitar more in the first ten seconds of playing it and it’s continued to grow on me steadily for about 2 1/2 years. My favorite neck ever - my 000-28EC is another Mod V and also wonderful, but not quite as perfect as the one on the CEO-7. It sounded great right away and has just gotten better and better since. AND insanely comfortable to play. The only thing I don’t like is the Sunburst, but I’ve gotten used to it and I don’t have to look at it when I’m playing it…

Congratulations, great guitars!

Just put mine back to bed, playing it still even though the binding is coming loose on all 4 waists.

With a bit of online research, I see that the surrounding finish can get damaged while binding is repaired. So it occurred to me to get my luthier to shoot some gloss black to the top and put on real ebony binding.....I played a Collings C10-35 Blacktop at a shop.....hmmmm, something to consider but I better get on to it before my luthier retires or something awful.....can’t see trusting anyone else.

I agree on the sunburst. Martin doesn't seem to quite understand what they're going for in a burst, but this one does look pretty good and I have a couple of Gibsons if I really want to look at a great sunburst. Otherwise this guitar is absolutely superb in both feel and sound. Looking forward to her breaking in a bit too.

Congrats!

I wonder how this compares in tone to a 00-18. I was torn over both and went with the 00-18.

So will you sell your 000-17? Seems like a pretty similar guitar.

IMO, the 00-18 and the Ceo-7 are pretty different sounding guitars.

The Ceo-7 is voiced to be bass-biased to my ear. It's big and full in the bottom end. While it's not a dread, the eq feels similar. It does NOT sound like a 00 sized guitar. And the adi top means you can strum it very hard without breakup.

The 00-18 by comparison is more balanced, better suited for fingerstyle and light strumming, and it sounds a bit "crisper" -- though that might just be the overall even balance letting the lows/mids/highs ring out equally.

I do think that the fundamental characteristics of "mahogany/spruce" are retained in both guitars, but to me, the Ceo-7 and 00-18 sound different enough that owning both is absolutely not redundant.

The CEO-7 is a night and day difference with the 000-17 so I will definitely be keeping both. The 000-17 has a nice dry vintage bite to it while the CEO-7 has a full, bass heavy luscious tone to it. I honestly don't find their tones close enough to compare, but I really love them both just for different reasons.

Yep! Granted my 00-18 is from 1956, but this description matches my thoughts on the two guitars.
