This is almost certainly the case. There are no holes for bridge pins OR strings. I would guess this guitar either had a tailpiece or maybe is just incomplete. I always assumed that bridge pin holes were drilled before it was glued on but maybe it's done after the fact? Photos coming shortly. OP is sending me a few more photos.

By the way, regardless of the type of bridge, the slot should not go all the way through the bridge so that the top plate is visible like in your photo.

You're right now that I'm looking at it..... a new bridge is needed or a custom saddle or a extra tall blank. Is a saddle come extra tall as a blank to custom fit ?

https://www.stewmac.com/search/?q=guitar+tailpiece I wouldn't reinvent the guitar. Get a replacement tailpiece and a saddle that will fit and play it.

I hear ya bro... just wanna get set up to play for now. Is it a problem with the bridge groove for the saddle being too deep?

It looks to me that's how it was made. I would think it should be fine. Saddles come pretty tall so they can be cut down. If by chance it doesn't you could cut a shim and put it under the saddle. I don't think it is going to be a big deal. But I noticed you said it is a twelve string. That might take a bit of searching for a tailpiece. There are some on EBay that would work. Just search 12 string guitar tailpiece.

That probably had a height-adjusting saddle that was much wider than the usual. It may have been like the Gibson ones; a metal channel with a plastic saddle in it, that had forked ends for the adjustment screws. You can see the dimple for the screw in the top at the bass end. I doubt you can simply order something like that on line.

Duh yeah !! I had to put postie paper under the saddle on my wife Fender six string. Took off much lowering the action. I see a generic tail piece on ebay. Gotta message the seller to make sure the hole spacing is good.

update
Ok so I found turner peg bushings, fret wire and a trapeze tailpiece. The tailpiece I'm not sure about. The ebay sellers are not very descriptive in dimensions. Here's what I found....
https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/2h0AA...ywq/s-l300.jpg Mounted length from body to string block is 5-1/2". String spread is 2". Includes mounting screws. (the flange looks like it has enough to fit where the top meets the bottom and still can be secured to the bottom.) From body of guitar I take it to the string block, gives me plenty of room for the strings to drape over the bridge saddle. |
