This is Em when pulling the capo in from the backside (or even with Esus capo)...note the first finger playing the root, and fingers 3-4 playing the Em chord form. And I can still use the 2nd finger to play an E or E7 chord form as well.

Hope this helps...

Got it... thanks. I guess I didn't get enough sleep.

Just been reading some of the explanations of things and my head is in a spin!

I play in DADGAD all the time and use full, and partial capo's that I've modified myself. I haven't really delved into the why's and wherefores of the notes and keys, ...if it sounds OK then I'm happy.

There is a " cut " capo by G 7th Capos that goes on over the top like a standard. The pad is cut out to leave 6th string open, and then 2,3 are pressed, 5 & 6 . Placed on second fret sounds great open. Pretty finger picked riffs can be played wih this, and some notes finger ed below the cap on the open strings....

That capo can be used either 'over the top' covering the 3rd, 4th and 5th strings, or 'upside-down' covering the 2nd, 3rd and 4th strings. Shubb make a similar capo - I've used both and settled on the Shubb, but the G7th is fine too.

There's a very good resource here for the prospective cut-capo-user...

I never realised that your VP was a guitar player in a band. The guy on the right playing the dread is Mike Pence isn't it.

I always thought of the capo-the-top-5-strings-and play in D as the "Norwegian Wood" tuning. Pretty sure that's how Lennon played it - and it's definitely the way I learned to play it.

I do John Prine's "Angel From Montgomery" in that 2nd fret pseudo drop D tuning. It works very well.
