Excellent advice.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Funny to hear about Martin bashing, they used to be immune to that. My how the mighty have fallen. Tell ya what, go over to the UMGF and tell this tale, they will be all over it.

BTW, what were those guys playing?

So you weren't using charcoal, you were using propane?? No wonder you got abused!

You should see the arguments Q'ers get into.

Actually, I have to disagree with you here, BK - this is the perfect place to talk about it. This is a like-minded group of guitar fans who understand this stuff. The original poster put up with their repeated rudeness, and showed himself the better man for not descending to their level. But it helps to be able to discuss the incident afterwards, to vent if nothing else.

Like Steve, I'd be interested to know what these yahoos were playing that made them so superior to a Martin guitar owner.

+1 to that. The OP didn't lose he cool with those guys, but felt we wanted an outlet to vent and came here. Makes sense to me.

We've probably all got a brand we're not that fond of - for me it's Taylors - but I'd never get on someone's back about the kind of guitar they were playing, even if it were one I really couldn't stand.

I play a lot of open mics and you get people who play all sorts of guitars and, because I'm a regular, a lot of people talk to me at the bar and I always, always, find something complimentary to say about them and their performance. So the guys voice wasn't great but he had some funny lyrics: "Hey man, liked those lyrics!" - So the girl ruined your favourite Dylan song, but some people liked it: "That's my favourite Dylan song" - So the kid can't play too wel but he's got a nice new shiney takamine: "That's a really nice guitar!"

I don't know if this is shallow, or whether I'm ing with faint praise, but I always find something positive I can honestly say so 1. I'm not lying to people and 2. They feel like someone noticed something good about their performance.

I wouldn't worry about the 'bashers' - they're probably the same people who insist you can't like country if you like rock...

I had a real propensity to get really wound up by that kind of crap.

(OK still do have, but I'm getting better )

Then my son introduced me to the rule, " Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by stupidity."

It helps me relax, and gets an awful lot of folk off the hook...

That's when you turn your playing up a notch and let the audience decide who sounds good.

that kind of behaviour is bang out of order

martins arent my cup of tea but i cant help but respect the companies achievements and the countless legendary musicians who have stuck to martin guitars

music is a wonderfully communal thing and people like that dont deserve to be a part of it

Well I read about those morons and it's left me feeling I am proud to own two!

Next time, get your wife to wear a matching Martin T shirt too.

You're the one playing the Martin, not them.

Best of luck.

Bingo, let the hands do the talking!

In my experience really good guitar players are not bashers of any brand, they are past that and more into "music".

Let it go..............................

They were really inept players-one had an Ovation, the other.an Epiphone. I have played in public since the 60's. This was just way over the top.
