I don't know. I like taking a guitar out of a case that I haven't played for a while and "rediscover" it.

I have 3 weekly players (top three in my signature) and the other 3 I rarely play, but I'm glad I have them. I also have a classical, and 3 solid top/laminate back and sides guitars that are tucked away in various locations in my house.

and yes, n still equals n+1

I'm a senior who works part-time now though and have more time than a working dad/mom with kids to spend tinkering with guitars.

I can only accommodate one more instrument on the walls.

That means my limit would be 8 guitars unless I decide to buy something like a banjo or another ukulele.

A few years back pre-pandemic, I had 7 guitars in the house at once. One was already listed for sale and hadn't sold yet, one had recently arrived, and one I bought on the fly because it was a less common piece and I had to move quickly to secure it (I think it was the D-18A 1937 burst in near mint condition). Anyway, I was like... this is ridiculous, 7 guitars.

I got down to 5 pretty quickly thereafter.

I'm thinking that three might be better than five. Get rid of the travel guitars?

I went from 8 to 5 in the last year and 1/2.

The remaining 5 all have a purpose for me so that is where I will most likely stay.

I was down to 4 but a good friend built and gifted me a beautiful guitar that I could never part with.

At some point in time, when I no longer gig, I may reduce my flock by 2 more but I don't see me adding any.

After I played my '93 Lowden S35, I thought I could just do this one!

But then I grabbed this Lowden, with a top that looks like it is made out of Irish skin!:

And then I grabbed my Custom Cargill 00:

and then I can pick whatever takes my fancy at the moment, pretty cool for a fool.......

Guess that is a no. For now.

Once or twice. . . . Then the following reduction goes to strengthen what remains. Repeat…..

Yes, I’ve had that thought. Fortunately, it passed rather quickly…

But seriously, as long as all my guitars and related gear fit in my dedicated closet in the guest bedroom, I don’t think or feel that I have too many.

And, like others have noted, it it a great pleasure to pull a guitar out that hasn’t had attention in a couple of months, and to fall in love with it again.

Yes, down to 4 (from 7) and I'm happy with what I have.

My daughter had a similar conversation with me a number of years ago, when I had about ten instruments. In particular, she said I spent too much time with my Les Paul cherryburst. I gave it some serious thought. Then I put her up for adoption. The child, not the guitar.

I had 4 guitars at one time. I realized that was ridiculous. So now I own 35.
