Default NGD redemption for my Eastman E10 OO.

Hi everyone,

After almost 1,5 months from my thread: "Ruined? NGD - Eastman E10 OO" https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...82#post6989882 , I am here to happily redempt the NGD.

Summarizing.

At the NGD the guitar had several issues, a very very poor cut nut, some tuners with stripped screws, Hight action.

I thought to return the guitar, but all the important parts were put together very well, I love the shape, I love the sound, I love the neck, I love the guitar, I bonded with it. I even put the phone inside and check everything and everything is very well assembled, with no flaws at all.

I fixed the action, replaced the bad screws and I put on a new nut, made other little work on it, and now I cannot be happier with my guitar.

About the nut:

Here are the distances between the strings in the original ones ( not center to center, but the distance from the end of one string to the start of the other... so the space between the strings)

In mm: edge of the nut (3.85) E (7.45) A (6.95) D (6.35) G (7.1) B (6.85) e (3.3) edge of the nut.

In inches In mm: edge of the nut (0.152) E (0.293) A (0.274) D (0.25) G (0.28) B (0.27) e (0.13) edge of the nut.

The nut width from the catalog should be 1.81, instead, it is ~1.84.

The shop had to send me a new nut, but for some issues, they have not been able to do it, so they suggested me a refund of 30 euros and I accepted.

Since the width of the nut was ~1.84, I bought online a Graphtech TUSQ NUT SLOTTED 1 7/8" (PQ-6138-00). I did some minor adjustments, install it and now the distances between the strings in the original ones ( not center to center, but the distance from the end of one string to the start of the other... so the space between the strings) are:

In mm: edge of the nut (2.9) E (8.2) A (8.2) D (8.2) G (8.2) B (8.5) e (2.8) edge of the nut. Overall strings spacing E to e 40.9 measure with a caliper.

In inches: edge of the nut (0.114) E (0.323) A (0.323) D (0.323) G (0.323) B (0.335) e (0.11) edge of the nut. Overall strings spacing E to e 1.61 measure with a caliper.

I also fixed some minor indents on the saddle, changed the strings and mount them properly, so now the spacing at the bridge is ~ 2-3/8" (~ 60mm) as has to be.

I also removed the pickguard.

Here is a comparison between the nuts:

And here is the guitar before and after:

Bye

Cristian

Hi, I have an E20-P which should have identical dimension to your E10-P and while I haven't had an issue with mine in the sme way,

I did take some measurements with a digital caliper
and attach some pics.

The nut width on mine is exactly 1.81"
the string bleed (from edge of fretboard to strings edges of 1 & 6 were 1 = .13" and 6 - .108"

The one thing that I noticed as soon as I got is in November 2019 was that the pinholes didn't perfectly match up to the string spacing. (2.38")but the saddle holds them perfectly well so I've stopped worrying bout them -and I've changed strings on it 12 times since I had it!

I also removed the rather poor quality "pickguard" and replaced it with a prettier Holter pickguard.

Wow that spacing was pretty out of whack, makes me curious what my guitars are, evenly spaced, centre to centre or neither. Don't know if I'll check as I don't have issues with it now!

Too bad that you had to deal with those issues, but good that you could fix it. Looks like a great guitar. I too am a fan of 00s.

Curious, how did you decide on the distance from the edge?

I have a Sigma 000-18M that has 0.095” (2,4mm) of distance from the edge. It has 1 3/4 nut width, perfectly cut and it is sooooo comfortable to play.
So happened that the graphtech nut for 1 7/8 seemed to gave me similar distance. I took the risk and I have been rewarded. Very light reshape and it is perfect.
