Default NGD - Yamaha FSX3

Nothing special except I really dig it. Saddle height and relief were perfect. Nut was really high, couldn't cleanly barre an 'F'. Bought a set a files and fixed that in about an hour. Intonation is spot on. No problems with the capo.

The bag is pretty chintzy, but it can share the bag/case with my Yamaha NTX3 when it leaves the house, although very snug.

Ordered a bone nut and saddle which I may or may not install. It sounds good to my ears as is.

Happy Friday all!

Welcome! Yeah, that FS3 is a great guitar, I think.

As far as the nut and saddle, if it sounds good to you now, I would leave it alone, but that's just me. Congrats!

I have a FS5 which gets more play time at the minute than my Larrivee OM or Martin 15SM. Such a warm and strong tone.

Just following up, I decided to replace the nut and saddle with the bone set I ordered from Amazon. Took a couple of weeks to arrive, but the fit is great. The nut fit perfectly, so no sanding, just slot cutting. The saddle radius was significantly greater than the original so I reshaped it from the top. Intonation is still good. Pretty good bargain, I'm glad I didn't get the FSX5.

Nice. I got an FS3 new two weeks ago as well and it's back at the shop now getting setup. Nut action was high and the action was a bit high overall for my taste.

I wish the saddle was a bit taller but apart from that it's perfect. Sounds great. I like how it's resonant and has overtones and so on but is also not particularly bright sounds a lot better than the more expensive Breedlove 000 CRE I briefly owned recently.

When you removed the nut, did it pop out easily with a quick tap?

I got my FSX5 about 8 months ago used in mint condition. The best $900 I've spent on a guitar ever. Plays so easily and sounds as good as any small body I've owned.

Yep. I removed the truss rod cover and tapped the nut one time with a plastic arch. triangle scale and screwdriver handle from the fretboard side. The nut was glued to the edge of the fretboard. The new one was perfect with the slots cut, but super shallow.

If the nut material is so important why don't we freak out about the difference between fretted and unfretted notes?

I try to not fret, but I just ordered the bone nut and saddle for backup since I was altering the factory nut as my first not sanding the nut from the bottom nut cutting endeavor. Since it was successful I wanted to try the bone for the experience, plus, now my FS3X is an FS4.3X.

I used those same ones on a different project to widen the string spacing on a Yamaha FS and I think they're pretty close with just slight tailoring needed.

Yeah, I was following that, thanks. The string spacing on mine is exactly the same as the original.

A lot of these are like that. At a loss as to why this is the case.
