Default NGD - Bourgeois!

I've been having issues with stomach pain over the last few months. After several diagnostic tests, my doctor diagnosed it as acute gastritis, which my brain happily interpreted as GAStritis, figuring the prescription would be for a new guitar. Alas, he really meant gastritis, which is an inflammation of the stomach lining and, instead of an all expenses paid trip to, I don’t know, Dream Guitars, or Gruhn’s maybe, he prescribed an acid blocker as well as avoiding alcohol, coffee, spicy foods and most of other my essential food groups.

Two weeks in and I was getting a little grumpy. My wife happened to notice me taking solace in the classifieds one day and suggested that buying a guitar might help. Great idea! And almost as good as a prescription. Bourgeois has been on my mind for a while, having been entranced by one of their OMs I had played in a local shop. But I really wanted a 00 12-fret. Acoustic Vibes had one, with a good return policy. So a week or so later my friendly UPS person gently carried it down the 200’ driveway, and here it is.

Some particulars: top is Torrified Bear Claw Sitka, back and sides are Figured Mahogany, Cocobolo and Maple binding, 25” scale, 1-3/4” nut. Perfect for me. This is the first guitar I’ve bought that had the nut slots set correctly - at a couple thousandths over fret height. A small point, but a nice touch nevertheless. The guys at Acoustic Vibes set the action and relief where I wanted it. Very nice people to work with.

I play finger style and am finding responsiveness to be a main thing I now look for in guitars. This 00 has it in spades. I don’t know if it’s because of how Bourgeois hand voices each of their tops, but I noticed the same thing after I bought my Collings - who also voice their tops. For me, that’s pretty much worth the price of admission. Aside from that, the Bourgeois has a deep, rich tone, with good sustain. Pretty much everything I was looking for.

Now if I could just figure out how to get Medicare to pay for it….

That is a killer looking guitar. I imagine you will enjoy it thoroughly. Ive been through quite a few Bourgeois models and enjoyed all of them. I bought a new Bourgeois Signature OM from Acoustic Vibes in 2013 and it continues to impress me as one of the very best OMs I’ve ever played. It’s one of those guitars I can’t imagine selling. I hope you have a great experience.

Congratulations from another Bourgeois 00 owner (14 fretter).

These are exceptional guitars that come so close to an OM sound that one wonders why bother with the larger size.

Those woods on your guitar are absolutely stunning. And I love the inlays, esp. on the headstock.

That's probably an adequate replacement for spicy food and coffee -- though replacing alcohol might require a booster dose of guitar (maybe a Huss & Dalton to go with the Collings and Bourgeois).

The back is incredible! The Sitka looks great too. Nice acquisition and good luck with Medicare : )

Gorgeous figured mahogany and the rest too. Congrats! Shame about eliminating all those great food groups, I'd be needing to buy a new guitar too. Feel better!

That is a sensational looking guitar. And I've never played a Bourgeois I didn't like. So I imagine you'll find some compensation for the health struggle and likely have years of satisfaction with your guitar.
