Default A strange and satisfying sensation ....

For first time in decades (and 12 years on the forum) I don’t have gas.

I will say that it is a strange and satisfying sensation, zen like Not saying I will never buy another guitar, but the last purchase, a 2016 Martin D-35, rounds out a small modest collection of guitars that covers all bases.

How About you? What was the last guitar you purchased? Did it cure you of GAS. If so, how long has it been?

I still occasionally browse the classifieds but I have no desire to act.

What know.... oh Yeah, play

Wait, what, was that a D-42 .....hmmmmmm

GAS is less frequent the older I get, but when it does hit, it is typically for really expensive things. My last purchase was a Gibson Southern Jumbo that I just got last week. Love it.

My tastes are leading back into the acoustic world, as I just get so bored playing electric these days. I'm considering selling a Two Rock amp and cab and getting a Martin Custom Shop 28 Series from Sweetwater....but, it's hard to say good bye to things I like just to satisfy an itch.

Actually I think the last (acoustic) guitar I bought just made it worse. I had pretty much always been a dread guy, but started getting OM curious, primarily for comfort reasons. My OM-21 opened my eyes to some of the possibilities.

And now I have a custom build on order.

Congrats! I’m in recovery. The last I purchased was the J 50 that quickly became my go to 9 years ago This doesn’t mean I’m done buying. But I’m thinking I need to off load.

I have a pretty small herd and I add to them gingerly. I bought my J45 in 2019. I'm circling the wagons around what the next one might be. Current market conditions allow me to take it at a leisurely pace.

Coming from a time (about '02 to '18 or so), when there were 1-2 guitars a month coming and going, I've bought a total of 3 instruments since the fall of '19, and two of them are gone now, with the other listed for sale, but I'm on the fence, so I haven't been actively trying much.

Life changes, taking care of elderly parents, surviving floods, heading toward retirement (much more quickly than I once thought) have all been factors in my purchase decisions.

When everything you own fits in 400 sq feet, you find yourself scrutinizing much more, trust me

Well, I just got my Furch a month ago. I think I'm pretty well set for what I do. Actually my inventory is more than a little bit of overkill, but I reconcile it by assigning different tunings to the guitars. This isn't written in stone, but they more or less stay with the program.

Avalon - DADGAD
Furch - CGDGCD
Gibson - standard and some alternate
Guild - DADGAD, CGDGAD, CGDGCD
Larrivee - same as Guild
Martin - standard, DADGAD
Seagull - DADGAD
Others - standard

I obviously didn't need the Furch, but I had gas for it for some while. The only other guitar I think about is maybe a 8 string baritone, which would be interesting to tune to DADGAD and Orkney equivalents.

Timely topic as yesterday was NGD for me with a McCollum Grand Auditorium (2000 build). This officially puts me into overload territory! The guitar is extraordinary (NGD post coming soon) and combines several of the qualities of a couple of my other guitars into one instrument. It's also gorgeous and the first Brazilian RW I've owned. So, I'm on the decision trail as to which guitar will move on from the herd.
Last summer......my 000 Flammang joined in......it's unique and a "keeper"........tone and playability.
I truly think "I'm done" at this stage of life......but then again, I"m visiting the classified often, (hint: it's just for the pictures! )

I hope you realize that an attitude like that can get you banned from this forum.

Same here.

I rarely get GAS these days, an expression that implies to me an irrational desire to buy a new toy. I've sold off a number of guitars in the past couple of years, and have refined and reduced my stable of electric and acoustic guitars to only include distinctive and/or versatile instruments of a certain quality level (except for the Gretsch Americana in my sig file, heh heh).

I'm really happy with every guitar I own right now and I'm really not suffering from GAS for more. However I have always wanted a Gibson LG-2 or L-00 but they really don't come through this area very often and I prefer to buy used. So I'll probably just stay with what I've got for a while.

Head over to Area 22 in Brevard and sample some Preston Thompsons or Larrivees or Huss and Dalton. Then let us know what the gas situation is.

I was going to mention that I believe my GAS is in remission because I can’t get out and visit all the stores like in the past because of Covid restrictions.

The last guitar I bought was in February 2020 just before things came to a grinding halt. I realized I am very happy with the instruments I own. But if the right J-45 or D-28 shows up??????

I've been wanting to buy (and try for the first time) a Yamaha MIJ FG5 or FS5 but they're not in stock. You know what, the past week I haven't thought about it much but I think that's because I'm so busy at work.
