Default What is the best guitar 'advice' you received in 2014?

Hi All,

As we wind down the year, I thought it would be fun to share your favorite "pearls of wisdom" that you received about guitars or guitar playing in 2014.

Mine came from my better half, a non-guitar player:

"All your guitars sound great. They each sound different, but anyone of them could be your ONLY guitar. Its fine if you want to have 6 of them, but if you want to simplify and have just one, stop comparing. Sometimes you just need to pick a horse and ride it."

Your turn...

This may sound bad, but I'm at a point in life where I don't really take much advice. At this point, I've got my story and I'm sticking to it.

Kh, I think I just got my best guitar advice "ever" from your wife via your post! Now, can I actually apply this "pearl"?

I'm 65, been playing for 50 years, reached the point where I'm more the giver of guitar advise anymore than the receiver.

When I was younger I listened a lot, now I share what I learned........

One piece of advise, if you're a vintage sound Martin lover, save a lot of time, save a lot of money "overall" (versus working your way up the food chain as I did), and set a goal for an Authentic, they are amazing and wonderfully responsible guitars that reward quality playing......

That what MAY be the furthest thing from the truth is what everyone agrees upon in any given forum.

At the beginning of 2014 I was quite sure that I wouldn't be adding another guitar to the collection I already had. After all, the three Martins here at home seemed to fill every need and want. But then along came a hard-to-pass-up opportunity to buy a new 000-18 at a great price. I posted a query about the 000-18 on the Forum and got prompt and valuable advice. The advice came from members I already knew had significant experience with and knowledge about Martins. Needless to say, the 000-18 arrived soon after. And I have not been disappointed. Thanks to those who took time to reply.

Note: I think KH1967 is a lady....

Best advice I got was from my fiancée... she said, "You really should get that guitar." She was talking about a McKnight dreadnought I got at this year's McJam. I used it to record on 7 tracks for a friend's gospel record. And, recorded some of my own stuff with it. It records magnificently. Thanks for the advice, Kathy!!
