Default Santa Cruz D12 for bluegrass?

Does the D12 have enough volume to cut through in a bluegrass circle?

How would it compare to a Collings D1 or a Santa Cruz D/PW or Martin D18GE? Could it hang? Potential "banjo killer"?

Any other thoughts on the D12? Thanks!

Have not played a SC D-12. But if my 12 fret Collings DS-3MhA, slope, slothead, is any indication I'm bettin' you won't have any problem being heard. And I'll bet that SC D-12 is one fine guitar.

Might be OK but 12 fret D's tend to have a big, wide soundstage and a more narrow, projective guitar may be better for jams.

The Santa Cruz D12 is more shallow than most 12 Fret dreadnoughts which helps its focus and projection. I've owned two of them and they are one of my favorite models from SCGC. I think it would hold its own fairly well in a Bluegrass setting. I'd like custom order an adi topped D12 with the Hide Glue package and PW bracing!! I talked to Richard Hoover at one point about ordering such a beast.

Of course it could. Why would it not? All great guitars.

If you ask whether the D12 will be so loud you'll brown your pants and wonder why D18 players have been missing out for so long, the answer is no. These are all great guitars and other than exceptional specimen, no guitar (or banjo) is likely to get killed.

There are a few good YouTube videos featuring the SC D-12 - if you haven't already, check out Eric Skye and Bobby Swanson, both regulars on the forum here. There are also some dealer videos as well.

While many other guitars may be as good in a strictly bluegrass situation, the SC D-12 will be extremely versatile and work equally well with many other styles of playing -
