Default What do you use for uploading your audio files?

I've been using SoundCloud to upload audio clips I've recorded, however, when I want AGF users to hear a particular sound clip of a particular guitar, it not ony plays that clip, but automatically every other clip posted to my SoundCloud page. I've been in touch with SoundCloud explaining the situation and was told that's how they have it set up with no way to change it. They apparently think all people want to do is sit and listen to continuous music all day and have no other reason to use SoundCloud. So I'm looking for a free storage site that allows users to set up files the way I want to control them and hear sound clips individually if that's how I choose to do it....without having to download and run software on my system in order to use it.

i use mediafire. i tried dropbox but found problems with it. i tried sendspace but your sharing of files is limited by time. mediafire allows you to share your files but since it is free, there are ads. the big thing to look out for is the limit in gigibyte and the limit on individual files.

play music!

I use ReverbNation.com As far as I can tell if I send a link it takes you to the player page and you can select which cut to hear, I haven't figured out a way to send a link for a specific song. You could also use YouTube with a simple photo or title frame for the visual. Good luck and let us know what works for you. Joan

I just figured out how to send a link for an individual song. When you do that, it still takes you to my complete player page but the song in the link is the one that plays. fwiw I got a soundcloud link related to a Kickstarter yesterday. The first link was for the entire playlist. When the singer realized that, she broke the original link and sent a new link that was just for the specific song. I'm not sure if you need an advanced version of soundcloud of if she just set up another account with just that song. Do report back when you get this working for you.

I used to use SoundClick, but started having issues with it (would add a file and it would not appear, delete a file and it wouldn't go away, sound quality degraded, etc.).

I use box.com now and it is fast, free, simple/clean interface, and so far painless

Call me old-fashioned (how ironic) but I thought the point of having music on your page was getting it heard. I don't see why a site dedicated to streaming music, you know ..... streaming music is an issue.

I think he's worried about people getting confused and thinking the subsequent tracks that play are of the same guitar when they might not be (if his purpose is to demo a particular guitar).

That makes sense, you just can't fault a music listening and sharing service for sharing MORE music. 99% of what SC does isn't "listen to this particular guitar" clips.

If that's the case, I second ReverbNation, it won't auto-play, but it won't stream additional tracks either.

GraceGuitars is exactly right. There are instances when members of AGF and other instrument sites I'm a part of want to hear what a particular instrument they're considering sounds like. So naturally, if an AGF member is considering a J-35 and wants to hear how my J-35 sounds, they're not going to want to hear my Guilds, Martins or my Irish bouzouki or Irish whistles along with it. And I don't want them getting confused, thinking all guitar tracks on my page are the J-35.

I like ReverbNation...a good (and free) option to establish a musical presence on the web. Allows uploads/downloads, plus more. My page is http://reverbnation.com/kccraine

If you name the files appropriately, it shouldn't be an issue:

"Demo of J-35", next song "My Old Man (original)", etc.

You would think so, wouldn't you. However, I don't trust people to pay attention to those things...honestly...I can't count how many times I've made something really clear in writing, and it gets glossed over. Plus, some people may be playing the track minimized, and not be watching the titles...

Thanks Jon. The files are appropriately named but I'm glad some understand that humans are humans and don't always pay attention. My intent of this post isn't to be judged as to WHY I want a file storage site that allows the user to control his/her files the way he/she wants. I just simply asked what sites some of you are using and I appreciate the answers that have been helpful.

BTW, I tried box.com and keep running into issues with the files not playing at all. Flash is updated, no system issues, but I'm randomly receiving Flash crash notices. Sometimes no crash notice and the files won't play anyway. At least I've never had issues with files not playing in SoundCloud. On to other possibilities that have been suggested.

UPDATE: Was still having issues with box.com, so just signed up with Mediafire and it does exactly what I'm wanting. No playback issues and plays only the selected tracks. It's also MUCH faster uploading than box.com when uploading tracks. Uploads in a fraction of the time. Simple and easy. Thanks for to everyone for your suggestions.
