Default Strings for Taylor Mini-e Koa Plus

Gotta get rid of the 13's that came on this guitar. Too heavy.

Specifically, what did you restring yours with (gauge, brand and type, please). Did the sound suffer from the change? If so, how?

Thanks in advance.

Currently, my GS Mini Koa has D’Addario EXP 16, PB (12-53) on them. And I like them. 13-56 strings are also uncomfortable for me.

Elixirs Nanoweb PB 12-53 are also suitable for Mini Koa, IMO, as they (PB) bring out the high end chime that Koa top wood possesses.

I’ve not tried D’Addario nickel bronze, 12-53, (my go-to strings for my other guitars) as I don’t play my Mini as often as my 3 other guitars. I may put them on the Mini at my next strings change.

I do find 13’s louder but having lesser sustain and sweetness as 12’s.

I use Curt Mangan Round Core Monels on my Koa mini-plus. I play mediums (13's), but the light (12's) might work well for you. To my fingers round cores add some add'l "softness".

I have a Mini mahogany and switched to Elixirs Nanoweb PB 12-53 lights. I like them better and I didn't notice any loss in volume or tone. To me they sound just the same as the mediums, just easier and quicker to play. I did have to tweak the truss rod to adjust for the tension difference but once it was dialed in I haven't had to touch it.

Thanks for everyone's responses. I would really like to hear more from strictly Koa owners.

Hi,.I currently use D'addario nickel bronze 12-56 and really like the sound of my mini koa.
I use elixers on all my other guitars , a gs mini mahogany, Martin 00028ec, Taylor Gs6,and Taylor 324 and an Eastman E10ssv..I did try elixers on the koa but I felt it needed something different to bring out the Koa sound.

Just my 2cents
Dan

Thanks, Dan. I put these same strings (except 12-53) on and had a setup done. World of difference, no loss of volume, play is easier.
