Having owned both, to me the HD12-28 is much easier to play than the guild. The body is smaller, the scale is 24.9 instead of 25.5, and the neck is slimmer and slightly narrower. The HD12-28 is a much more modern take on the 12 string than the old Guilds and Martins.

That said, it's still a dread and the Taylors are quite a bit smaller and easier to play. I found them quite lacking in bass, however, which is usually the tradeoff with a smaller body.
