As a beginner I would stay away from the mini because of the medium strings. Harder on the fingers. You can string with med lights and they still sound good but I don't think lights do justice to the mini. I think any of the 100 series is great for a beginner. As is also the Big Baby...it may not look as cool without a cutaway but it's not very much money, sounds good and is easy to play.
