I've liked most of the Martin D-42's that I've played, but my all-time favorite at that level of ornamentation is the Martin D-42K, with koa back and sides:
I'd go so far as to say that the D-42K's are my all-time favorite Martin dreadnoughts, regardless of tonewoods or ornamentation. They're just great-sounding guitars, and look elegant, besides.
Anyway, D-42's are magnificent guitars, whatever tonewoods they're made from.
