OK, maybe this is kind of cliche as over used with some Beatle-Bowie vibe, but I throw this in sometimes when making similar transitions:

Am6
Fmaj7/C
C and variants
That may be drawn out and round about, because there are much shorter changes. Drama! Reason I have always like this is the minor-maj transition, while staying full bodied sound wise because so many strings, except for the Am6, but that's kind of the low part of it turning around.
