I know exactly what you're saying. It's a bit of a crap shoot with eBay.

I've bought a few vintage guitars, including an old Taylor, and I'd say that not seeing old guitars is more of a problem than with a modern Taylor. You have issues like neck positioning, internal brace damage, fret problems, worn saddle/nut, the list goes on...

On the other hand, eBay has the advantage of a huge selection to choose from. If you don't mind taking a little risk, you can get your hands on models that you otherwise wouldn't get to play.

My favorite guitars, though, were not bought on eBay. I got them at the store or from another forum member on one of the boards I frequent. Truly, there is no substitute for being able to sit down with a guitar to decide first.
