Here's a new Christmas addition to my small collection. I wanted a short scale J45 to complement my two Martin 12 fretters but for various reasons didn't want a Gibbo. I was looking at the Kopp dreads as one of the UK posters has recently imported one and likes his. Then my brother who owns an Atkin jumbo told me that Alister was making a copy of a '43 J45. I got in touch with Alister last week and he had just finished one and now here it is in my sticky little hands! This is his take of a 1940's 'banner' J45. Just about everything is period correct, though the sitka spruce top is torrified. Mahogany back and sides which are really dark almost black and look superb. Firestripe pickguard and three in line klusons. He has a couple more on his website
www.atkinguitars.com He has made several of these for the Buddy Holly foundation in Texas. A fine guitar from one of our finest guitar makers.
