Joni Mitchell and Willie Nelson did a wonderful updating of "Cool, Clear Water" by the Sons of the Pioneers (who provided a lot of songs in a lot of John Ford westerns). Likewise, Bobby Weir and the Grateful Dead used to do wonderful things with John Philips' "Me and My Uncle," as well as Marty Robbins' "El Paso."
