Like Rainsong, and Composite Acoustics, Blackbird uses a more traditional building method, whereby the soundboard is a separate piece. This method allows them to voice the tops using braces, and/or double top construction. They could add an armrest of course, but as with wood guitars, it would definitely add to the price, and I doubt there would be much of a demand on a small guitar like the Savoy.

As for the headstock, it's the signature Blackbird shape. Over the last ten years I've learned to appreciate the design as compared to other travel guitars I have used. One of my travel guitars actually wore through the inside of the gig bag thanks to it's non rounded headstock. With Blackbird, form follows function, everything is there for a reason.
