On the whole, I think I'd agree with you, but I have gambled a few times. I've bought two Taylors online without playing them first, an XXX-MC and an NS44, both of which were disappointing and ended up being sold. Having said that, an Epiphone EL-00 (ebay), a Godin ASC (new) and a Gibson CJ165 (new) I also bought unplayed and each turned out to be spot on.
