I find it hard to believe that anybody, anywhere ever used the word "aught" to mean "nothing".

"Aught" has a long history of meaning "something" ... its antonym, "naught", is the word which means "nothing".

Hence "dread nought" = "fear nothing"... first applied as a nomenclature to a class of British Navy battleships.
