I have only seen this happen to a classical guitar strung with steel strings.

Most of them can't handle that kind of tension and it will pull the neck up.

If that's the case... Use nylons!

Can't hurt to have a "tool box of sounds" in your collection.

Or maybe replace the tuners with metal ones instead of plastic if that's the case... Put some extra light nickle strings on it...
Stick a humbucker in the soundhole...
End pin jack....

And voila, you have a really sweet slide guitar?
