The Saramonic preamp might require some trial and error to set your gain for the least coloration and/or distortion, but it does sound good once you play with it a bit.
I use "Open Camera" (free video app) that makes it really easy to adjust and lock settings like white balance & focus. It gets lots of good comments from folks looking for a free camera app that is superior to what comes loaded on the phone.
