Regular old brass slide from "Guitarget" on various acoustics with 11s. Might be imagining this, but it seems to sound better than the same exact slide they sell with chrome plating. I put a brushed "satin" finish on mine with a wire wheel.
There are several accounts of Duane Allman's first exposure to slide guitar. If memory serves, his brother Gregg gave him a bottle of Coricidin for his birthday because he was shut in with a cold, and a week later he was a monster.
