When you attempt playing them by themselves (not within a song) can you make them sound?
The point you touch is the fret wire directly over the top of the fret wire (toward the sound hole) and not within the fret itself. It is a very precise spot.
It is easy once you find the exact point to find it ''again''. As some mentioned fresh strings make it easier to initiate them. there is no room for error on the 5th and 7th frets...even moreso precision is required for the harmonics at the 9th fret and just above the 3rd fret wire.
