My BTO Came Today (Pictures)
Indian Rosewood B/S
Sitka Top Cindy Gloss Ebony Headstock ... I won't bore you with the details [even though I labored for months over them] I love taylor guitars. http://i993.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/DSC00685.jpg http://i993.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/DSC00686.jpg http://i993.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/DSC00687.jpg http://i993.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/DSC00688.jpg http://i993.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/DSC00689.jpg |
Ok... Look the guitar porn has got to end... ;) It is becoming an addiction. Seriously, that is one hot looking Taylor... Congrats.

Very nice, David! GA? Nice binding, and keeping the theme going through the bound soundhole and all.
What color are those tuner buttons? The don't look gold; kind of a shiny gun metal? or is that reflection? Nicely done, but of course we also want to hear how it sounds!!! Congrats, rr/Phil |
Yikes, that's beautiful. What a lovely clean-looking piece of spruce on the top. I love the fretboard inlays, too. I'm a small-bodied (the guitar, not me!)Martin kinda guy, but that would do just fine in my modest collection.

The multi-layer binding, matched with the White/black soundhole binding looks really nice - very finished and refined.
Beautiful guitar! |
For my money, nothing beats a Cindy inlay... :) Gorgeous!

Wow everyone, thanks for the positive support and compliments! I'm very pleased with my first night with the guitar--I'm becoming accustomed to it, (i.e., its responsiveness, dynamic range, size, etc)
@Wooglins -- Thank you for your kind words, although, judging by your list, you have quite a few guitars I wouldn't mind taking home for a week or two...or a month...or much longer than that. @riorider -- Thanks for noticing the subtleties. I definitely chose my binding and purfling carefully, I wanted it to match. For you to notice the consistency is gratifying...probably not 1/100 would notice. Although, I'm not surprised you did, as this is a Taylor Guitar forum. To answer your first question, yes, they are chrome. About how it sounds, it sounds lovely. However, until I play it for a few months, I won't really have a definitive take on how it sounds. You see, I'm using to playing a Taylor 110ce (2006), so I'm accustomed to a boomy, loud, and bright dreadnought tone that comes from the Mexican factories. This guitar is a new experience; it's forcing me to adapt as a player, pay attention to it for what it is (an indie rosewood GA, not a DN), and adjust to the subtle complexities that inevitably come with a fine instrument. Right off the top though, I would say it sounds warm, rich, and Taylor-like. Haha, does that help at all? @ewalling -- Many thanks. I appreciate your spruce comment...for the longest time I couldn't decide between Englemann and Sitka--I went with the latter because I feel my bone-tone digs in too hard for the former. And it's funny that you mention Martin, because my friend has a fine Martin guitar, and the playability of this instrument vaguely reminds me of that instrument. Nice comment. @wooglins -- This may be my favorite response. I am so pleased with the way the headstock turned out, overall. The phrase "understated elegance" perfectly describes what I see; glossy black ebony headstock, cindy inlay, and shiny chrome tuners. I think it looks slick, and I'm not much of a gold guy, so I went with my gut on that one! Here's a question for all of you: any tips on adjust from a dreadnought 110 to this beautiful instrument? It's going to take some work. My style is mixed, including folk, a little blues, and modern singer/songwriter. What do you all think? Thanks again for the kind words-- |
@mark-0025 -- Thank you for noticing the details. I wanted this guitar to look elegant, and have a little sparkle. That's why I chose the Cindy and the Ivory Rosette. I didn't want to go over the top, which is why I chose to forego the ivory trim around the edge. I really, sincerely appreciate you noticing the details in binding, purfling, etc--not many people do, and your kind words mean a lot, and make me feel great about my hard work and the money I spent.
@riesendw-- We couldn't agree more about the Cindy inlay. |
HEY!! How'd you get that big scratch on the back already? JK!! :) I know..cruel. Sorry :) GORGEOUS guitar..congratulations!!!
|
Absolutely gorgeous guitar! Like Wooglins said it has an understated elegance...gorgeous!

beautiful guitar.
could u PM me how much u paid for it. i'm considering a cindy guitar with somewhat similar specs. thanks! |
Beautiful guitar, congrats!
Did you get the headstock backstrap as well? I know what you mean about adjusting to a new Taylor. My previous acoustic was a Yamaha APX7 from 1990's ..which I'd modded and played like a dream but sounded like a turd. When I got my "real" Taylor (not Baby) it was such a shock to hear a pure tone coming from it that I was a bit hesitent in my playing. Thankfully a few months and a few gigs later, I'm quite comfortable with it. Enjoy it's a beauty! |
@vbf -- haha. Oh man, I think I might have a heart-attack. Speaking of the back, though, if you look closely, there is this lovely burst of red in the Indian Rosewood that runs about five inches long. It makes the guitar look so authentic. When I was researching IW, I read that some guitarists are surprised to find reds and purples in the wood. I was hoping my Taylor would have these colors, and it absolutely does. Quite a bit of purple, actually.
@swiftz07-- I'll PM you right now. @zenflyGS -- Thanks! Yes, the headstock is backstrapped. Thanks for the tips on adjustment. I think I'll grow into the new guitar l ike you did with your GAce limited. |
Congrats - she's a beauty! I really love the fretboard inlays. Enjoy.
