Pickguards & Wood Opening Up
I didn't think either of these questions would justify thier own thread alone...so here they are together for economy purposes...
1. I dont like the look of pickguards. Can a guitar pickguard be removed w/o damaging the guitar? Is that a "routne" thing that any luthier can do, or is it a more specialized, risky process? 2. I have heard of guitars "opening up" through time. Not sure that's true, but does anybody know (assuming that's true) whether Mahogany would "open up?" or is it only certain woods. Would (no pun intended!), for example, a 10-year old Hog Top guitar sound differently than a new one of the same make and model? Thanks... |
Both these topics have been discussed a lot on the forums. I'm sure you'll get helpful replies soon, but in the meantime, you might want to use the search function and see what you can dig up :D

The best way to get a guitar to open up is to take off the pickguard. :D

I was more interested--I guess, for those who think any wood opens up--whether that would apply to Mahogany as well as any other topwood. If someone doesnt believe that wood opens up at all, no need to answer the question. |
Here is a tid bit from another forum I found interesting on the subject.
