New GS

As a proud "parent," thought I'd share some pics of my new GS4e LTD from Jim at Guitar Rodeo here in town... incredible deal, btw

Played it today at church service and it performed flawlessly with the ES system through my roland AC-60.

I sold a ton of gear to get this guitar, and my beloved Seagull MJM6 (to a good home..I am satisfied). This is my first all-wood guitar. It costs 2x as much as my Seagull, but I believe it's at least 2x the guitar. Regardless, I thought I'd share....(hopefully the pics will work)

You gotta love the LTD series. I like that Taylor is always testing out unique details on the LTD's. Great purchase from a great dealer. I owe Jim a lot. I could have wandered around in the guitar wilderness for years and not find the "life" guitar.

exactly...

This LTD is a very practical "no frills" guitar, but the wood combination works very well for my application (strumming & flatpicking).

Jim kinda reminds me of Kevin Spacey, the way he looks and his even-toned voice of composure. He's quite a guy. Don't know how he stays in business with the deals he cuts & the buyback guarantee, but he must be doing something right as he's the 4th largest Taylor dealer (volume, I guess...store is kinda small) in the country...says alot

At this point it's hard to imagine growing out of this guitar, but it's nice knowing that I have a built in upgrade option with Guitar Rodeo....yee ha!

I'm really looking at getting one of these...

The one I picked up didn't have such an appealing back tho, or a pickguard.

Not so sure now, after seeing how gorgeous yours is!!
congrats!

I take it you would recommend one...

Jim had three at the store (Guitar Rodeo) and I played all of them. The first sounded good, but had a kinda ugly (my opinion) bear claw across the bout just above the saddle area. Jim then brought out one that he said had the best wood..top was perfect, back did not have much sapwood. It played well. I was that far along so I tried the 3rd one, which I ended up with. Nice bear claws, and of course the skunk-stripe sapwood on the back. Not as pretty as #2, but it was sonically superior !

As for the pickguard, I picked up the guitar later and had forgotten the guard, so Jim mailed it to me. I was a little nervous, but it was easy to install. Now I can put that on my guitar upgrade resume.... :)

For my purposes, on a budget, if you don't mind the sheen back and sides (which I kinda like...they seem less suseptable to scratching), if you want ES, I wholeheartedly recommend it....

...If you have a bit more ca$h, I'd go with the 2008 spring LTD, it has the same wood combo, a cutaway, and of course, bling...

Definitely. The blackwood GS is a really nice guitar. The GS4e-LTD from last fall fit nicely with the rest of the GS line. They're quite a value too if you can snag one.

Now you have to be looking at the spring limited 616ce-LTD and 626ce-LTD, which should be available soon.

Scotty, I hadn't seen any of the blackwoods with sapwood. Very cool. You might want to consider glossing that up too; I bet it would be great.

616ce LTD? What are those?

Chazmo 04-08-2008 07:22 AM

Sorry folks, I've been a little maple-crazy lately. I meant 416ce and 426ce limiteds (they're the spring limited acoustic/electric GSs with blackwood). Hope I got it right this time. ;)

I was actually talking about the Spring 416ce LTD.

Jim has several of them at GR. Nice...more in my price range.

I will probably *not* gloss the back/sides at this time. Another forum member who had glossed his sheen B/S took advantage of Jim's buyback policy. Jim discounted the buyback value slightly cuz it wasn't the same as "factory." Not sure what Jim does about less cosmetic upgrades, like bone components. I'll ask and find out....

Chazmo 04-08-2008 08:03 AM

Scotty, I just got the numbers wrong (as Tsaidog called me on it).... The 416 and 426 are the ones I was talking about.

Yeah, I guess glossing the guitar could devalue it, but I don't like satin finish on anything but the neck. Just me, I guess. :)
