Video: How to use your classical guitar to input music notation into your PC

Here is a video for all of you who would like to use your classical guitar as a Notation input tool with just the built-in microphone of your PC/laptop for absolutely free:

Instead of using a mic, can direct line in be used? (Through a Scarlett 2i4?)

Sure you can use your pickup with a high-z line in. That would have been the normal way to do it - this video shows a lesser known way of using the internal mic.

A second note input possibility with a classical guitar

Here is another video showing the same note input process but using a classical MIDI guitar (Godin Multiac) with the new BOSS GM-800 guitar synthesizer:

Just a couple weeks ago I was thinking to myself, there has GOT to be something out there that can do this. I never formally learned to read music so writing it out has always been a struggle this looks like a nice little set of tools.

They are indeed - it’s just that the first method is for free and the second one costs you at least three grand ;-).

Is that for hardware too? Because the software is $150 bucks or so it says on their website. I assume the free trial only runs so many days.

If I remember correctly the free trial keeps working indefinitely but shuts itself off after some time and you have to restart it.
