Mesquite
Hi Y'all I was looking on craigslist this morning for fencing and found this load of Mesquite wood.
http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/mat/1081404927.html By the looks of it the wood in the ad is slab sawn not quarter sawn, but the thought of a mesquite git intrigued me. How would mesquite work for building a git? |
Wow, that's amazing, never seen that. I don't know about guitar woods, but Mesquite is a pretty hard wood. At least if you burned it, it would smell good.
Maybe you can get Steve to build you one. |
Me either Fred. I sure hope that nobody burns that stuff up to cook steaks

Funny thing is that I was looking for a mesquite dining room table and found an Indian rosewood one that looks remarkably similar and is much less epensive. In fact I bought the table, chairs, side board, and hutch... Not sure about the tone, however. :)

there's a Fylde cedar/mesquite guitar for sale at Shoreline:

That Fylde was a custom build. Plus, Shoreline is no longer a Fylde dealer.

I got mesquite out the ears. I'd love to see guitars made out of it.

I have a Charles Hoffman 00 made out of Argentinian Mequite. He had it on display at the Miami guitar show last spring. I played it there and then was able to make a deal for it after the show. It looks amazing and the sound is in the Mahogany range to my ear.
Works for me at least, and Charlie that is. |
Recently, Bob Taylor said that mesquite made very nice guitars. It would just be difficult to convince people to buy a mesquite guitar instead of BBQing with it.
