Opinion: 80/20 best strings for Seagull S6(or cedar tops)
In my opinion, 80/20 strings sound best on a Seagull S6...agree or disagree?
I believe the S6 comes with PBs from the factory, bit I threw some 80/20s on mine and it sounded far better to me. More piano/bell tones to my ears. When the strings got old I changed them back to PBs because that's what I had on hand, and I just think it sounds a bit lacking with less sustain and clarity. I would love to hear some opinions on this. By the way, the 80/20s were Martin SP Lights. I'm thinking of picking up some elixirs tomorrow. Can anyone tell me whether or not the coating changes the sound? |
I like, but don't own a cedar topped guitar.
Cedar has a tendency to be a bit warmer sounding than spruce. That warmth and Phospor bronze could be a darker sound than you're after. Personally, I don't like most Martin Strings. FOR ME, I find they take a bit more effort to play. They sound great. But I don't like to work that hard. That said, I have a set of Monel Martin's, that are on deck for the next string change on one of my Alvarezes.. Also, you might find other brands of strings have a different sound that might appeal to you. PBs are not the same across different brands. My current go to, is D'Addario EJ-16s. But I also play Fender Custom Lights. I've been using the 80/20's on my 5013 for many years. And despite the "fact" that they are SUPPOSED to be brash, and bright, they aren't on this guitar. |
