Cheap dreadnought

Hi everyone
Thinking of adding a cheap dreadnought to the collection. Not really bothered by electronics. Just looking for something to use as a beater.
Have been considering an Epiphone Hummingbird. The new Pro only comes with electronics. Have been advised to also consider the Sigma DM-ST or DM-1ST. Not been able to play any of these as yet, so just wondering what people think of these three models in regards to tone, playability and build quality.
Thanks in advance
Ian

Cort Earth 70 or 100 would be something I would recommend considering also.

Not sure what cheap is...but a basic Seagull dread would be a nice get.

For a cheap beater, and even more, I think Yamaha can not be beat:

+1 on checking out these Corts!! Best "cheap" dreads I've ever played!

Like the other guy said - What's cheap?

$250? Used Seagull - no contest

$500? New Recording King RD-10 (sub-$500)

$1000? Used D-18

Here's one in your price range. I think Yamaha's are hard on my old fingers but the specs on this are impressive. You can have the strings lowered for about $50. If you get the credit card you can get it with no tax, no interest, no shipping.

I noticed that you have a Crafter guitar listed. I bought a used Crafter HD 24 Silver Series that I really like. I has a nice warm sound.

I played a few Sigmas recently. Very impressed with all of them except the mahogany top ones.

Check out guitarfetish. They sell these acoustics under the name Xavier. Some of the specs are mind-boggling. I have never seen one in person, though I'm seriously considering ordering one.

I always recommend the Art $ Lutherie Cedar. These can be had used very reasonably. To me, they are better than anything else in the less than $200 price range.

I have one of the older "Printed Rosette" A&L Cedar Dread that I bought about 2003. It IS a really nice, if overly simple guitar. Plays and sounds beautiful.

Yep the S-6 would be a real bargain

Yanto 12-03-2013 10:59 AM

Sorry all. Really would help if I'd mentioned my budget. I'm looking at spending a max of £300 which equates today to just below $500US.
I cant get a new S6 here for anywhere near that money. The Hummingbird and the two Sigmas fall well under budget but do get good write ups.
