Pickguard replacement

I'm looking for a bit of help here please from anyone who may be experienced with this . I can find plenty on line about removing the guard but would like to find some useful tips and tricks for the placement of a new one ... I'm worried about removing the adhesive backing before placing the pickguard down ... any suggestions very much appreciated .

Get it where you want it, then on the bottom edge put some masking tape that holds it to the top of the guitar. Then flip it up and remove the adhesive. When you put it back down it'll be in the same spot because the tape will be holding it there.
